V A M  the Virtual Alpha Micro

Install, MacOS

MacOS is not Linux. MacOS is based on Darwin, which in turn is based on BSD unix; Linux is an independently developed unix-like system. They share common command-line utilities (like ls, grep, and vim) and both use shells like zsh, which often causes people to confuse them. However, their package management, system APIs, and driver models are different.

VAM can be installed in the macos "terminal" app. When the Apple Xcode package is installed a C compiler and a "make" package are available but using them to install VAM is problematic. Standard packages are available and work much better.

To load those standard packages you will need to use the "homebrew" (brew) system. Download and install instructions are at

https://brew.sh/

then install gcc using the instructions at

https://formulae.brew.sh/formula/gcc

then install make using the instructions at

https://formulae.brew.sh/formula/make
